POND AND GAZEBO GARDEN

The pond and gazebo garden is located behind the summer kitchen, laundry house and smokehouse.

The pond is original to the property. My husband lined the walls with field stone. We added a fountain and moored a small wooden boat named Boat in the pond. The fifteen foot gazebo is octagonal in shape and was built by my father in law, father, husband and I. It is stenciled inside with vines, branches, birds, bird nests, rabbits, mice, and fairies. The ceiling is painted blue and stenciled with white puffy clouds and flying blue birds. There are four candle chandeliers which give a soft glow in the evenings. The gazebo is furnished with an antique cast iron garden set which came from an estate overlooking the Hudson River in the state of New York.

The flower bed around the gazebo is planted with azaleas, boxwood, lavender, blue evergreen shrubs, clematis, and daffodils. Growing in the pond are yellow water iris, cattails, and water lilies. At one end of the pond is a metal arbor covered in purple wisteria. There is a small birdbath surrounded by boxwood and daffodils. A long flower bed planted with daylilies, peonies, tall phlox, Bearded German iris, evergreen shrubs, Rose of Sharon, Autumn Joy Sedum, and Purple Coneflower which runs up one side of the gazebo.
