WOODLAND or BOSQUET GARDEN

The Woodland or Bosquet garden came into being, when I looked out an upstairs window of the house and saw some very tall wild Turk’s cap lilies. They were blooming amongst the wild roses down by a stream that runs through our property. It took me months to clear out all the wild roses and blackberry bushes to get to the lilies. We cleaned out along the stream and put in two bridges, benches, and a statue of Pan. To shelter the area, I planted Highbush Cranberries, rhododendrons, Pussy Willow and Carolina Sweet Shrub. I added hosta, ferns, lungwart and other shade loving plants. Over the years, this garden has become our pet cemetery.  The entrance to this garden is through either of two trumpet vine covered arches. The front part of the garden is sunny and therefore perfect for growing more daylilies. The bottle tree is in this garden and is under planted with red, gold, and orange daylilies, tall phlox, and purple hardy geraniums. There are also two wire and glass ball butterfly gates and a statue of a dog holding a basket of flowers. Since this garden is the original pet cemetery, this statue was the perfect choice. The woodland garden was enlarged along the stream with River Birch under planted with hosta, helleborus, lungwart, English Blue Bells, Forget-Me-Not and daffodils just to name a few.   A walk along this garden leads you to the second flower garden used for an Insectory.
